I am often inclined to say, if post-sporting interviews are always reiterations of the same formula, the same questions and responses, then they are pointless and may as well not happen.

But, what if this ritual serves some purpose? What would that be? Do we get repetition of form questions and form responses because the audience punishes variation? Or, is there a different purpose this structure fills?

The only thing it serves is to keep sports reporters employed it seems, since whenever ppl criticize it on a radio show or something, sports reporters say that they need it or they'd have nothing to put in their article the next day. :| Seems to be a trade off, athletes know that they have to talk to the media, to keep the media employed which in turn gives them more face time and fame...

that's rly the only thing i can think of.. post game interviews are so rote >.

I frankly could do without the sports report....or the post-game interviews. Or well, most of the actual sports, too, save for baseball. Or Quidditch...oh wait...the last one is "made up."
