aesmael: (haircut)
    Here we go again.

First, select your ten fictional characters (from any medium) by whichever method you like best. Then answer the questions below.

1. Havelock Vetinari (Discworld)
2. Severus Snape (Harry Potter)
3. Captain Jack Harkness (Torchwood/Doctor Who)
4. Tedd Verres (El Goonish Shive)
5. Billy Flynn (Chicago)
6. Elwood P. Dowd (Harvey)
7. John Crichton (Farscape)
8. Valentine (Mirrormask)
9. Robot Santa (Futurama)
10. Sherlock Holmes

1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?

Team 1: Vetinari, Captain Jack, Billy Flynn, Crichton, Robot Santa
Team 2: Snape, Tedd, Dowd, Volyova, Holmes

Team 1
Leader: Vetinari
Lancer: Captain Jack
Big Guy: Robot Santa
Smart Guy: Crichton
The Chick: Billy Flynn

Team 2
Leader: Valentine
Lancer: Elwood
Big Guy: Snape
Smart Guy: Holmes
The Chick: Tedd

Team 2 does not work at all! Holmes, Volyova and Snape all could be the Smart Guy and so could Tedd. I suppose Elwood could too but he doesn't do that any more. Tedd gets to be The Chick not just because he often is a chick but mostly because for all his genius and gadgetry it is always the others who save the day.
Team 1 does work well, although Vetinari and Crichton could exchange positions and still have it work well.
Team 2 needs a Big Guy. I would swap out Elwood P. Dowd to Team 1 for Captain Jack, so Crichton becomes the Lancer, Billy Flynn becomes the Smart Guy and Elwood is The Chick. Which is a shame because Elwood has all sorts of great qualities which don't seem to fit into these teams.
I am fickle and decided to turn Ilia Volyova into Valentine. Now he gets to be the leader of team two because, after all, he is a very important man and Holmes gets to be the smart guy because, hey, world's greatest detective (Batman can have that back after I am done). Now I do not think I will swap any characters between teams. They each have their charms. Hard to say which team is better though. Team 1 is probably more action oriented while Team 2 is more social oriented.

2. Gender-swap 2, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?

Snape, Valentine and Holmes. If Snape were a girl I imagine the James, Lily, Severus dynamic would have been different and, since I assume James would have left her mostly alone Harry Potter would likely have had an easier time at school. No further speculation because I have yet to read the last volume in the story.
Valentine... I suppose without that subtext with Helena things would have turned out more grimly. She could well have become a waitress.
As for Holmes, we did that show already and it was called Moonlighting. Okay, not quite. But she would maybe have to use Watson as a front or face hazards of similar nature to a certain Victorian lady detective of whom I can find no trace on the internet.
I think Snape would have the most change.

3. Compare the matchups of 1 & 8 and 5 & 9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?

Vetinari/Valentine, Billy Flynn and Robot Santa. Billy is very bad indeed so Santa would kill him, which is a shame because Billy is all about the love.
I am tempted to think Vetinari and Valentine would work well, except Vetinari only cares about his city and Valentine has his tower. Maybe they could meet through a support group.

4. Your team is 3, 4 & 9. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?

Captain Jack, Tedd Verres and Robot Santa. Hmm. Clearly, being a large robot killing machine, Santa gets the physical challenge. Captain Jack flirts with everything in sight plus he is charismatic so he can have the social challenge. And Tedd is a genius inventor so he can have the mental challenge. Hopefully it can be solved by turning things into other things.

5. 7 becomes 1's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?

Vetinari would probably quietly ignore John and go about his business and maybe also manipulate him into doing stuff. Crichton would probably go along with it thereby foiling the plot of whoever put him in this situation.

6. 2 finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's continuity. As far as anyone other than 2 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 2 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?

Well, Elwood is a muggle so Snape would probably have nothing to do with him. I don't know HOW he would react to being thrust back in time but I imagine he would be cross.

7. 3 and 5 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?

Jack gets to be mortal (I think), Billy gets a pile of money and then there is a huge party in which at least one of them has a lot of sex.

8. 1 and 2 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 4. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 4 survive? How?

Tough to call. Tedd would have to hide in some other form until the brainwashing wore off. Vetinari has spies everywhere though so that still might not be enough. Tedd would probably have an unfortunate accident and if he escaped that, well, if Tedd was lucky he would spot Jack and turn him into a kitten, otherwise he would be shot on sight. He would never see Vetinari coming though, so that is that.

9. 6, 7, 9 & 10 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?

Elwood would use his money to have the orphanage fixed up nice and also give them his card in case they ever needed anything ever. Crichton would help fix up the place except the bits that are supposed to spark and Sherlock Holmes would find out all the problems that need fixing and also all the stuff the kids want (and who is pretending to be the ghost haunting the orphanage [he is scooby doo, right?]). Robot Santa would be Santa of course, so Crichton would have to fight him off with the laser guns he installed until Holmes revealed Santa's weak point.

10. 3 and 8 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?

This should totally be a show! There would be a new adventure every day. They would get distracted whenever Jack finds someone in need of help in spite of Valentine trying to convince him not to unless there was money. And then in the evening they would flee to the next city pursued by people mad about Jack's choice of flirting partner.
In the last episode, they find themselves desperately far behind and rush to catch up, only to have an ending similar to Verne's novel.
