• The plot weren't an annoying apocalyptic myth going around for years already


• And if astronomers and others weren't having to reassure terrified people that the end of the world is not imminent, thanks partly to the film's advertising

It isn't new, of course. This nonsense happened in the nineteen fifies too with the radio dramatisation of H G Wells's 'The War of the Worlds'. People in the US literally headed for the hills thinking the Martians had invaded!

Sigh....if only people weren't quite so gullible :o(

Yet another testament to the stupidity of people in large numbers. I don't know why anybody panics about movies, though, because seriously, if the world *was* going to end, the government wouldn't tell us, in order to avoid causing a panic.
