We had an excursion today, to this lovely place, the State Records. I found myself wishing I had brought my camera to show some example of the several hundred kilometres of records. And the guillotine doors. And, just, the whole place was fun. Have a scene to set there. Came away with story details long untouched, the Citadel for brushing at Eternity.
"Mouse eggs get all sorts of places."
Our tour guide sounded like Susanna Clarke, which was interesting. What else is there to say? Not much, it seems, but it was wonderful getting to see how many and how many kinds of records are stored, even if those are only 4% of what the state government generates getting kept in attempted perpetuity. Mostly people only get to see the reading room and not the endless corridors of the records and archives themselves.
Was a bit hiccuped getting there. A little late, not because I was late, per se, but from not knowing how to recognise the destination and losing some time investigating afoot unrelated buildings. We had to give purpose to security guard to get in.
Clearly I am tired and failing at being coherent. Sleep now! (not really)
