I went back to the school today to fill out the necessary papers before I can legally work there. They are doing stocktake currently, which should be interesting and not something I am familiar with yet. Mostly it was a matter of asserting I have not been convicted of any offences relating to children, and consenting to a background check.
Unfortunately it turns out these documents normally need two to three weeks to process, so there is little chance I will be able to work next Thursday. I am relieved this is at least not an error on my part, since I was only contacted about this offer two days ago.
There is the possibility processing will go quicker than expected, fast enough for me to show up next week. Even if not, there is still the possibility of future opportunities at this school, and this paperwork will still make it easier for me to find employment with Catholic educational organisations in the future.
