Only two really stick with me, which is "living without routine" and "perfection is impossible." Illustrative that my profound life-changing realizations are mostly forgot :)

Date: 2008-08-13 23:21 (UTC)From:I've just done a course in Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). Forgetting all the therapy stuff, one of the tools it gives is Mindfulness, whereby one pays attention to sensory input rather than the chatter of the mind. I'd heard of this but hadn't practised it before. It's impossible to do all the time, or one wouldn't be able to cross the street let alone do anything else. Maybe enlightenment is like that too. I seem to remember this quote:
"Before enlightenment chop wood and carry water.
After enlightenment, chop wood and carry water."
