'peeps' to me are these crazy marshmellow things that are somewhat in the shape of baby chickens and are covered in dyed (typically) yellow sugar. They are only sold around Easter much like Cadbury Cream Eggs.
I assume since you are asking, that they are a purely North American concoction.

Ah, thank you! The vague image I had in mind was approximately correct, but I have never seen anything like that picture. They sound either delicious or sickening. Perhaps one, then the other.

it has been several years since I have had one but i always liked them.. however i do believe if you eat too many, they end up with this really weird aftertaste..lol

I find them sickening. Either the sgar coating or the dye (I'm not sure which it is) has a horrid perfumy taste that just ruins the experience of biting into vivid yellow marshmallow.

Eurgh. I must go and wash the memory of the taste out.
