Talk, laugh, drink, eat, dance... Not all at once, mostly. There can also be making out, depending on the party. Drama is known to occur especially over who's making out with whom. Also getting embarrased and feeling stupid is often a highly popular option (don't want to stress you, but it's known to happen).
Thank you. Am not actually attending or invited to one, but in need of writing about a party and realising I do not understand them nor know what happens at such occasions.
My favourite literary party is the first chapter of The Number of the Beast. The last chapter is another. RAH was good at writing parties. He discusses the intrauniversal nature of parties in Glory Road.
Adolescents - making out and things. 20-somethings - drinking and playing games 30-somethings - networking to get ahead. 40-somethings - quiet parties, usually to whinge about getting older 50-somethings - no parties. time to get ready to retire. 60-somethings - LIFE is a party! You're retired! 70-somethings - parties are now called funerals :o/
