Been bad at making posts again this week. Mostly because I have been feeling a lot of tired in the evenings, and running around during the week. I like stability. I like to know where I will be in advance and today I have not so much been getting that. Not far enough in advance.
Tuesday morning, got a call while I was cleaning for the toy library, from my case manager. Not sure exactly what was going on, but she wanted me to suddenly come in tomorrow and be supervised at job searching, and I was told after that I would be put on with reverse marketers to try and sell me to potential employers. I got the impression it was a mass sort of thing, as I was told they - the company - didn't want anyone going home until they had gotten a job interview booked.
So I had to leave the charity shop early the next day to get there in time, and it turned out to mostly just be me sitting on a computer in front of the reception desk trying to apply for jobs. Well I'd not realised I should have a resume with me for this sort of thing, and asked my case manager if she could email me one to send out. The one I got turned out to be roughly five years out of date, so I spent an hour rewriting it to be more current before sending a few out with what were hopefully decent tailored cover letters. I thought they were fine, but I'm not one of those people who gets responses to job applications, so what do I know?
Did get to do a bit of what I think of as library work however - a person sitting near me was trying to print out some documents as part of a defence-related application, and asked for help as the text kept getting cut off. Managed to solve that for em with a bit of poking around in the print settings. Tend to think of that as 'library work' because resolving such technical difficulties is a non-minuscule fraction of what I was called on to help with in my second placement at the university. Felt good to help someone instead of only staring at a screen being bored all afternoon.
I had also been given a sheet to fill out as a 'wish list' of places I would like to work at, so I did my best to fill that out too. When I was handed these my case manager told me to see her again before leaving, and by the time I had done all this I noticed I had been at the place for three hours. Since my car was in three hour parking I became worried about getting another fine and asked the receptionist if I could talk to my case manager, who turned out to be with a client. Half an hour later I was getting very antsy and on point of declaring I need to go out at least for a bit to move the car, when the receptionist noticed I was still waiting and made things happen. Turned out I could just go at that point, and was told m'case manager would be in touch with those companies I had listed contact details for.
A relief to leave, but annoying to have my quiet afternoon of calling the tax office removed. At least phase 1 one of Operation: Interact With Tax Office was neatly completed the following morning before having to dash out again. If I am fortunate, I may get to pay them a large sum of money soon.
Grumble grumble grumble, enjoy stability. :d But I think mostly this week went well, despite various annoyances.
On Thursday morning I was asked to come in to the charity shop on Saturday afternoon because they were projected to be short of people again (and I did prove to be nearly necessary today!). Thursday afternoon as I was setting up the toy library I made some requests of the librarians to get information about toy library sessions out there a bit better, was delighted to see them implemented pretty immediately. Not that such a response didn't match my prior librarian experience, but it was gratifying to see my ideas treated as worthwhile and myself treated as authoritative on their implementation. The librarian I most often interact with knew one of the children enjoying the toys that day too, which seems a good sign.
Friiiday, an appointment with my case manager to replace the one from last Friday I'd missed, on account of underestimating how long Centrelink's office would take to spit me back out again. This time she missed it, having taken sick perhaps as recently as 20 minutes prior (exact time unknown). Her replacement didn't seem to feel in a position to take any definitive action on me, but since apparently something catastrophic will happen if I don't get an extension or something on those agreements they require me to sign and the accompanying work at the charity shop, another new appointment was made for me on Monday morning. Hopefully the stars will align by then? I think the word 'implode' may have been used, which is seldom good.
Maybe I will make implosion my new generic threat. Had been considering 'railway spike to the head' as a replacement to the tired fire, but maybe implosion is more exciting.
I don't want to talk about Tuesday or Saturday in the same post as this one here is, so we stop for now.
