Intended as part of my previous post before it grew so long, let it be noted that I have come back to writing, again.
Yesterday produced 116 frustrating new words of a story I thought would take only a couple of hours to write before having to stop for lack of monsters. That was intended to be the start of a routine writing time, already missed today. I had intended to take a break with something easier (that tale of epic fantasy) but found much to say here instead.
Always tomorrow, never today.
Now have some ramblings to fill the blank space which would not exist if not for ramblings:
My initial intention when I started this journal and the other one was to attempt something similar to what webcomic artists typically do produce new material for people to read on a regular schedule. Long, long ago in my naiveté I actually thought I could produce a new entry in the Journal of Discourteous Joe daily and still manage to write other things. That did not work out and I changed first to weekly then biweekly schedules. That has not been working out lately either because I have not been writing and so I tend to forget even while there is still have a reserve of old material that could be posted. It does not help that the current project I am writing has grown to novella length (it will likely need to be cut down substantially once finished).
Since then I have been reading more various webcomics and realised that in general webcomic artists do not meet the schedules they set for themselves either, although those who do seem to have larger audiences. I suspect this is largely due to a combination of greater commitment to their work and the reliable chance of new content serving to draw readers back.
Anyway, I finally realised (possibly again) that if even the people I was emulating are often unable to meet the schedule they set for themselves then I, working in a different medium, have no reason to expect to either and never did.
The current plan is to take a break from posting new fiction after finishing the one I stalled on yesterday. Instead I will try to write a few stories and get a feel for how long it takes to finish them, so as to find a timetable that suits my process. When I do start posting fiction again I mean to post stories only if I have a certain undecided number in reserve, so if something is taking especially long there will either be another break or an attenuated posting schedule.
For now I have the next fortnight to decide if the meantime will see my older stories reposted and sorted at the wiki site I am using. May be a useful trial to help decide where I will put the new ones.
