aesmael: (transformation)
I have been tagged by the one known as Ami. Let's see what happens, mm?

First, select your ten fictional characters (from any medium) by whichever method you like best. Then answer the questions below.

1. Granny Weatherwax (Discworld)
2. Guts (Berserk)
3. Roose Bolton (A Song of Ice and Fire)
4. FitzChivalry Farseer (Farseer Trilogy)
5. Samuel Vimes (Discworld)
6. Hyatt [Ha-chan] (Excel Saga)
7. Susan Sto Helit (Discworld)
8. Ned Stark (A Song of Ice and Fire)
9. Yatima (Diaspora)
10. Megatron (Transformers)

I had to make myself stop pulling Discworld characters. Like Vetinari. If only I could replace one with him. But that would be silly.

1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?

Team A: Granny Weatherwax, Roose Bolton, Sam Vimes, Susan Sto Helit, Yatima
Team B: Guts, Fitz, Hyatt, Ned, Megatron

Team A
Leader: Granny Weatherwax.
Lancer: Vimes
Big Guy: Susan
Smart Guy: Yatima
Chick: Bolton

Team B
Leader: Megatron
Lancer: Ned
Big Guy: Guts
Smart Guy: Fitz
Chick: Hyatt

I broke my teams! Granny just sort of naturally falls into 'in charge'. If anyone else were, it would be in name only. Poor Roose! He is smart (or at least devious and cunning) and a trained fighter and a very highly ranked leader but in this company he is just outclassed. Back to the shadows from whence you came, Lord of the Dreadfort.
Team B is even worse. Ned would rather die than follow Megatron and Megatron would oblige. Swapping Ned for Roose would fix things though. Then Roose can be the Smart Guy and Fitz the Lancer. And Ned gets to be The Lancer because he is a bigger contrast with Granny and I think that makes the Big Guy even though he would be Leader without Granny and sadly Susan is shunted down to Chick because Chicks often get nifty compensatory powers and she has a bagful.

2. Gender-swap 2, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?

Guts, Ned and Megatron. Oh my. Too bad Yatima just missed out; ve has no gender. Guts' story would step on the toes of Casca's 'having to work extra hard to prove herself because she's a woman' plot and his accusing Griffith of being a fag would make no sense but otherwise his story works surprisingly well.
Ned would work well too, I think. Women can be rulers in the Seven Kingdoms and a lot of his story involves being a good parental role model and mothers can do that too. Although, one big difference is everyone would assume Robert was Jon's father.
Megatron is a shapeshifting robot from a distant planet bent on universal conquest. What needs changing?
Verdict: Guts, because I can remember a few Ned, because I think there would be a whole different set of dynamics wert Robert and (male) Catelyn.

3. Compare the matchups of 1 & 8 and 5 & 9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?

Granny Weatherwax/Ned Stark, Sam Vimes/Yatima

*broken*

If- but- umm... I suddenly have the urge to go back and insert Severus Snape into the list. >.>
Granny can do whatever she wants, I suppose, but she already put aside romance for magic. Ned would get whispered about the same way Stannis does, I suppose. At least until Granny put a stop to it.
I guess the people of Ankh Morpork would just think Vimes was weird (we are ignoring canon relationships too, right?) and Yatima's people would think ve was insane because of the time difference.
Honestly I think both relationships would wither and die from lack of affection on one part.

4. Your team is 3, 4 & 9. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?

Roose, Fitz and Yatima.

Yatima should get the mental challenge because ve is usually software and not very social outside of a small circle. Fitz, being a trained assassin gets the physical challenge and that leaves Roose Bolton to handle the social with his lordly manners. Actually, maybe swap the last two. Fitz is trained to deal with social situations and Roose creeps people out.

5. 7 becomes 1's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?

O_O

Granny Weatherwax would not appreciate some slip of a girl telling her what to do, I think. They would probably get locked in an iron staring match for the entire week, or else come to a sensible arrangement.

6. 2 finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's continuity. As far as anyone other than 2 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 2 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?

Oh my. Guts would be a... mercenary? Serial mass murderer? I suppose the ACROSS girls would be sent to recruit him or at least do something bizarre near him and for some reason everyone in the area would have to die and Excel would run off dragging Hyatt's body at top speed explaining at the top of her lungs that this was in no way her fault and if only she had not been tricked into saying that Lord Ilpalazzo would surely have been pleased with their performance and wake up, Ha-chan.

7. 3 and 5 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?

Diametric opposition! Vimes hates nobs like Roose. Bolton tends to treat commoners as ambulatory furniture. If you cut the tongues out of uncomfortable chairs.
    1. To depose the current King/Queen of Westeros, perhaps?
    2. An end to irritating Dis-Organisers and new kit for the Watch?
    3. Something advantageous to Roose which looks like a good idea to Vimes too on the first few inspections. (no word about what happens after)

8. 1 and 2 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 4. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 4 survive? How?

Fitz should make his peace. Guts would cut him down easily and even though Fitz might try hiding with the Wit Granny would just Borrow him and make him drown himself. Although... even though I doubt Granny could be Skilled Guts might be vulnerable. Then she would have to pull one of her patented Miracles of Iron Will to win the day. No, Fitz is deader than he has ever been before.

9. 6, 7, 9 & 10 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?

Hyatt, Susan, Yatima and Megatron help an orphanage!
Clearly Megatron is Santa Claus. Because he can fly? And leave a trail of light (destruction) in his wake? Santa does that, right? And Hyatt would play the part of the reindeer who spits up blood all over the children.
Susan would probably do all the work, teaching the children and making sure they study and keep everything neat and tidy. She is very sensible and practical. And Yatima would have pleasant accommodations built for them? And maybe try to persuade them them to upload themselves into a polis where they would not want for anything. Being an Orphan verself I expect ve would be very sympathetic and patient with them.
Megatron would probably get them toys by blasting the roof off a toy store and ransacking the place.

10. 3 and 8 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?

Roose Bolton and Ned Stark. Oh, light, I suppose the survivor would make it. No, Roose would probably be the perfect vassal so long as Ned kept his door locked at night. I have no idea how used Roose Bolton is to doing things for himself but Ned is a practical sort and I imagine they would get the hang of such advanced technology. I'd give them a 1/3 chance of one executing/having the other killed and a fifty-fifty chance at least one of them makes it.
