    Several cities, in including Toronto, apparently are planning to replace civic lighting with LEDs. Apart from the environmental and financial benefits, this will hopefully also be an opportunity to reduce light pollution. Victory all round.

Now there's an idea for you! I hadn't even considered LEDs for civic lighting; I guess that my head is stuck back around 1970, when an LED still wouldn't even make a good panel light. But the photons/currency-unit numbers alone should make it worth it; today's LEDs are the most efficient electrical light source I know.
