It seemed an interesting idea to note and maybe write some little bit about what I am reading. It happens when the moon is right.

El Goonish Shive

I have not read this comic since early 2006 because I have this tendency to put the things I enjoy behind all sorts of other less fun tasks I set myself. Anyway, now I am caught up to where I was when I stopped (Ellen sings at Grace's birthday party) and reading onwards. There has been one actiony storyline so far (Painted Black) but mostly this comic is about the relationships and personal development of the characters. In fact, it still is even when there is fighting going on, which is just as well because otherwise it would be dull.
This was one of my very favourite comics back when I was reading it, along with Order of the Stick. I don't know how it is now but considering this is a very slow-moving comic I don't think it will have moved very far yet. In overall style, that is.
I'm up to June of 2006 (Justin Spoilers!) and so far the story is just as affecting as I remember. This comic makes me sad for personal reasons too, though: if I had access to the same technology Tedd has in the comic I would be very very happy in ways that are impossible for this world to give me in the foreseeable future.
I have, by the way, no idea what is displayed on the front page that link goes to. I am reading via old RSS entries in Google Reader. Best way once it is available in my opinion. Turns the story into an interweaved river of Story, News, Filler and Newspaper entries which are worth seeing in context.
Incidentally, many of my icons are from this comic. I chose only ones which depicted a normally male character in a female form, as happens often in this story.
Further incidentally, Dan Shive is so far as I know the only heterosexual writer I have seen create well-rounded homosexual characters of both sexes. His art is also both realistically proportioned and attractive, if not realistic per se.

Alien Dice

This is something I am reading. I don't know about recommending it. I am still in the phase of reading the archives up to the present. The page I am up to is here, way back at the beginning of March 2002. So far it seems a blend of Pokemon and Card Captor Sakura with extra extra angst. I say this every time I mention this comic: it gets my editorial fingers twitching with every page, wanting to fix her presentation.
I am not unrecommending this comic. I do not have a definite opinion on it.
There are other comics and other things I read online. They aren't being mentioned here mostly because I am reading them as they update rather than in a large block.

Ptolus: The Legend of Longcoat

A disparate group of individuals band together in hopes of putting a stop to a vicious and elusive serial killer who may or may not be the same one that afflicted the city more than 100 years ago.
This is not a story being told by someone. It is a Play-by-Post game of Dungeons & Dragons hosted at ENWorld. It is, however, better done than most (most stories, that is), maintaining a suitably mysterious and chilling atmosphere throughout (and no need, I think, to understand the game at all to follow the action perfectly well).
I admit I do not read much horror, but more than once The Legend of Longcoat had me on the edge of my seat or biting my lip. Fortunately I managed to restrain myself from being quite so insufferably rude as to intrude and express my admiration for the performance of the players and GM (Game Master) directly.
I am not actually sure of the ethics of reading a game I am not playing in, even though it is on a publicly accessible message board, still less so writing about it here like I have. Hopefully I am not guilty of any transgressions.

The Woodlanders by Thomas Hardy

I was reading this book in print until a number of pages turned out to be missing from the middle of the book. Now I have my revenge over its electrons.

Meh. I'm no good at reviews.
