Yes, it is (past) that time of year again when I ask for recommendations. Anything you think I should read, watch, play, listen to, whatever, suggest it in the comments. It can be fiction or non-fiction, just name name something(s) you think I (or everyone) need(s) to be exposed to.

Date: 2007-07-07 19:59 (UTC)From:I also enjoyed some works of Robert Rankin, Specifically two of his works:
"Nostradamus Ate My Hamster" has a marvellous underlying plot which seems like a fragmented random sequence of events interspersed with short stories until a little time travel at the end ties everything together.
"The Most Amazing Man Who Ever Lived" has a lot to say about the afterlife and a real corker of a science fiction plot to boot. One of the protagonists is an alien called Mavis, which thinks it is disguised as a dog but is in fact disguised as a sheep because it doesn't get on with the rest of it's co-workers.
Finally a must read for anyone who wants an alternate take on religion is "I, Lucifer" by Glenn Duncan, which tells three stories at once, The first being that of Satan possessing the body of an author who recently committed suicide, the second is the mystery of what drove the author to kill himself in the first place, and the third is the screenplay Satan begins work on in the author's body, which is the bible and the history of mankind told from HIS perspective.
