The day wears on. The blood flows. I lift my gaze across the battlefield and see, as if in a vision, the fallen arrayed before me all in a row, beloved comrades and faceless soldiers I never knew. Even from this distance, even from those without expressions, I feel their staring accusation.
"Why could you not save me?" That's what they want to know. "Why did you let me die?"
