Trailers. Bridge to Terabithia made me think of Narnia but possibly done well. I had not heard of it before seeing the poster outside the theatre but I am now interested in seeing it. Bee soldiers in formation!
Another longer Transformers trailer, this is the main film I am looking forward to after the immediate batch. It looks like they are trying to take this 'seriously', which is interesting. It looks like it will not have the fun characters (especially the Decepticons) I loved in the original show - more like scary-action-sci-fi than the old cartoon brought to life.
I still have not heard any of the transformers actually speak in the promotional material, which is interesting. It definitely looks as though the focus will be on the humans, with no insider view on the transformers themselves. I have heard rumours they may be intending to franchise these films so perhaps that may change in the future. It also does a job of expressing the alienness of the situation, matching the tagline being used ("Their War, Our World"), by suggesting that the transformers are in large part not even bothering to communicate with the humans they are interrupting. Which seems out of character for the Autobots. I shall try to remember that this is a different thing from the cartoons of my childhood and (perhaps) enjoy it for what it is.
Also finally saw the trailer for Die Hard 4.0. I had not been interested in this film before but now I think I might see it. I also thought it would be neat to see a similar film with a female (and unsexified) lead, but it is worth noting that some parts of the ad, such as Maclean's concern for his daughter, would have struck me as clichéd and stereotyped if the lead had been a woman. Need to turn that sensitivity down a slight bit. Although it is actually a standard feature for male leads too, come to think of it.

Date: 2007-06-07 13:12 (UTC)From:From the trailers I've seen, I'm worried that the Transformers movie is going to be mostly about humans fighting the ebil Decepticons and the humans are the stars and heroes. :(
:\
:/
But hopefully it will be good-ish?
I worry cuz it's from Michael Bay and he is crazy :(
Men caring about their daughters is a staple in fiction :o If they have a son, the son must be actively involved or at least learn from the dad or something XD Something where we get "I'm proud of you dad" or "I'm proud of you son".. or both >.>
But a daughter is fun and gives the male hero angst and a family to care about XD
Female leads with daughters are usually taken differently tho? The scenes are treated more with a "female animal defends children" slant, like in Aliens or in the current Catwoman. :\

So far from the ads I have identified the plots: Alien menace threatens the U.S. (and presumably some other places too), U.S. government tries to control something Man Was Not Meant To Meddle With, U.S. overreacts to threat and spurns allies leaving only the chosen (young and attractive) few to save the world, boy gets magical friend/help so he can Get The Girl (see The Love Bug), predestined Chosen One saves the world thru the purity of ver heart.
I do not know much about the film industry but I have not heard anything good about Michael Bay, so I am trying to keep my expectations low. It is not easy since they are building this up to be a huge blockbuster when I had expected it to be a relatively small and low-key picture, put to one side as 'uncool', as well as quite wanting it to be great. I suspect part of the way it is being presented - very action-violent - is from a perspective of 'transformers fans have grown up, now they want a more "adult" version of their franchise'.
My expectation is it will show some promise ultimately unfulfilled. As with the first Transformers film, the fan community will endlessly write their own versions in an attempt to fix its flaws and give us 'what should have been'. Or mock it.

Huh. I thought I had more to say but most of it turns out to be generalisations I can not recall sources for to substantiate so I will just say that sounds about accurate to me.
