One subject I never expected to post on was sport. Well, I am actually a fan of tennis (It is like a legal bloodsport, see?) and probably my favourite players is Wayne Arthurs, who apparently is the oldest player on the tour at 35. This was to be his last attempt at the Australian Open. Yesterday in the third round - equalling his best performance ever - he had to retire at the beginning of the match after having a reaction to a local anaesthetic.

I'm going to miss seeing him and his marvellous serve.

It seems one of my very favourite fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, is possibly to be made into a television series. Hopefully it will be done well, but George R. R. Martin himself seems confident that HBO (the ones who have bought the option) are the right people to do it. I have always thought that if it were to be adapted this would be the format to make. Each chapter follows the perspective of a particular character so I would want to make each chapter, roughly, into an episode so each week we would be following a different character. But I am not a television person and I suspect it would not work out well with some characters going months between appearances and such.

Moment of fanny fancasting: Martin has said he thinks the guy who plays Red in That 70s Show could do Tywin Lannister [Kurtwood Smith]. I have seen suggested and agree that maybe the guy who plays the Janitor in Scrubs would do well as Sandor Clegane [Neil Flynn].

I have completely not done any of that mandarin practice I promised myself - right now I probably know more french. So I have decided to try translating Jayde as a daily exercise. But first the very elementary. I am going to have to learn to identify subject, verb and object in sentences because that is the word order followed.

Yes. Well.
