Because of Custom Groups one can never be sure of seeing all entries. There is always the possibility that, between any two visible entries lives a swarm of others, crossing, networking, referencing. Whole conversations and theses reside in the spaces between every entry. The sparking of these off one another is what powers LiveJournal.

[Disjoint Connection]

Writing these entries is much like folding paper swans and dropping them into a river. But rivers have different currents. It would be nice to be able to control the current of this river.

Up until a year or two ago, the calendar-view actually showed all entries, including custom and private ones, so it was quite possible to know how much you were missing out on.

When Joyce and I broke up I used this to see when she was dragging me through the mud again >.>

(I must confess, it's a feature I miss, although I think these days the only journals I care about, I probably have access to all but the private posts, and I assume people rarely make private posts. I have a few drafts here and there, and a few "deleted-via-privatization" entries, and that is about it I think)
