Apparently, amongst groups receiving government funding for abortion counselling will be at least two Roman Catholic groups. [Story] [Commentary from Tim Dunlop]
I kind of wonder if that whole "separate church and state" thing just went out of style or something maybe? I am puzzled. This doesn't seem right and, at the very least, there should have been more effort made to at least support both sides.
I don't think we ever had that formally here but it still makes me extremely uncomfortable. I think most people don't like to see religion and government mix. But, I think this sounds like paying people who believe taxation is theft to advise people on how to do their taxes. Or someting like that.
Well, that is exactly what it sounds like - which is why I find it slightly disturbing. It is sort of subtley taking away people's right to choice by *only* employing those who support one side. Kind of anti-democratic, at best.
That's basically anti-abortion counselling, cuz they're not going to help you make an informed decision, they're going to push only one choice on you. >:O
*smack smack*
Governments should not fund religious groups with taxpayer money.
