Today is the tenth anniversary of Carl Sagan's death. I mentioned before that I am not personally familiar with his work but he did mean a lot to a number of people I respect and I have long meant to read his books.
Well, I may not have any personal story to share but today those who do are having a blogathon to honour his memory. As well as that I would like to point the way to those entries showing up on my personal reading list.

With my piercing scientifical eye I can see this proves that if Carl Sagan had an influence on you, you are almost certainly a sceptic and possibly a scientist too, though there is a small chance he may be your father. Well, he certainly had a massive and wonderful effect on many people and I am sorry to say I never knew him. Hopefully I will be able to get hold of some of his books soon and go some way to fixing that.
Well, there is still more to do. Just the other day I was at the newsagent looking for a copy of Seed magazine. I did not find it. What I did find was the 'Special Interest' section, a single small shelf carrying Analog and various astronomy and general science and technology magazines thoroughly mixed with magazines on astrology, UFOs and conspiracy theories as if there were no difference between any of them. I do hope that, as Carl Sagan did, I will be able to help people see how wondrous the world really is.
