This discussion reminds me of a dark summary of The Wizard of Oz that I first saw years ago. From IMDB:

Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first person she meets and then teams up with three strangers to kill again.

And really, a lot of the Oz mythology is pretty dark. People just don't always realise it.
