"Thinking is hard."
"When does one begin to think?"
"When one makes the effort."
Periodically (irregularly) I ask what this journal is for.
Is it for the presentation of my creative efforts? Well, no. Not any longer. A denizen's entertainment is slowly taking on that role. Another of my stories has already been given its own home; two more are likely to follow (est. ~2009-10). There likely will still be the occasional thing which fits best here, most likely if it is considered too small or incomplete for another venue.
The two sites listed above have been added to the list of links along the left-hand column (a list of links has been added to the left-hand column).
Is it, then, a journal? I find that more difficult to answer. It is not entirely private - extremely rarely private - whichhas had been a large part of my understanding of what a journal, traditionally, is. Writing the previous has reminded me that a journal need not be private and a journal can be many things.
I think this is a combination of thought and speech. Some of it is attempting to capture thoughts/working out in progress, some of it is satisfying an urge to share what goes on in mind and - perhaps - not be alone.
Diarying vs. Journaling
There is a distinction. Diarying is for internal matters: thoughts, feelings, in relation to particular events or otherwise. Perspectives and other such. Self and the evolution thereof.
Journaling is for external matters, then. Plain recountings, public sharings, things which are said to many (contrasted with things said to few, either being generally open for discussion ///). Chronicling rather than recounting/exploring?
Earlier it was intended to say I have forgotten my lessons about the fuzziness of categories. Now I shall be bold and say I am learning. These are considered potentially (often in practice) overlapping sets.
Marker, marker. There needs be a loom; thread is in progress.
Now retrieved from poor abandoned post the question: What am I saying?
Most of the time I do not have any clear message in mind. Most of the time there is a vague idea of something desired to be said or worked out and I ramble until I find it or not. Right now I am working toward the idea that clear, expressive writing is likely highly advantaged by keeping its intended message in mind (by having one) and/or rewriting once a goal is attained.
Make that a goal. Currently it is more immediately gratifying to me to get out those things I want to get out without polish and I would like to write more pieces which are clear and which do more speaking than flailing. Perceived best route: better time management and focus.
Time management is a route to many of my goals. It should be made a priority.
If I built my loom, that would help.
