Sleep now or take advantage of this rare alignment of... charge. I should and I should learn how to take advantage of such opportunities as they are prone to slip away without much benefit.
First is a writing update. In keeping with the decision made while writing this entry, I have set myself the goal of writing on average 200 words each day, rather than 300. At first I was not making even that target at all but on Friday and Saturday I finally did, once I began work on the third part of my little Epic Fantasy.
Most of the words I have written so far this year are destined to be posted at Seeing the Lights, though Epic Fantasy is now fast catching. A handful of words showed up for a couple of other project too, but it is clear they are not going to become significant parts of my month.
It is perhaps early to compare what are currently my two main projects, however they do seem to have different feels. At this particular moment I am uncertain how to describe this difference at this moment; perhaps then it should be left for another time yet I shall attempt it crudely now. A large part stems from length. Although part 3 of the tale contains only 284 words so far, the previous two consist of 33497 words in total. This is I am sure the longest tale I have yet been telling and it seems around this point (actually several thousand words ago) the interaction between its shape and myself as writer changes. It becomes easier (still not easy for me) to write at length with the weight of previous events and interactions behind me. Not efficient writing, no, I do not believe that, but it does feel easier to 'bang out' a hundred or few words. Efficiency is a goal among others.
I still need to be able to see them. I still am pulling them back into focus after several months away from this story. Seeing the Lights/Aurora/Artificial Eyes is possibly different. Despite having accumulated more than 3000 words in the nearly two months I have been writing it, I think its highly episodic nature may make it more difficult for me to write at length at any particular time.
Perhaps I speak too soon (15000 words too soon?). Aurora's tale will almost certainly be longer than this intended-to-be-brief Epic Fantasy of mine before she is done and later she will have much more to say.
What am I trying to say? That will be gotten back to.
