    No, I couldn't do that. Not after reading the article from Feministing which megan_julca so helpfully pointed to: Air Force Charges Victim in Her Own Rape. Not being a U.S. citizen, I have no Congresscritter to write to. Would those who read this and are, take a look and do something please?

    Yesterday I wrote another 290 words of that Epic Fantasy, all bad. We'll fix that in post-production. Today I also added a few more lines to 'Uncountable', mostly right-handed as part of my ongoing project to regain ambidexterity.

I want to, but perhaps I'll try when I have more motivation to. Honestly, right now, I really don't think contacting anybody is going to make a whit of difference, simply because the military is an absolute juggernaut right now.

I have this crazy notion that, were I the kind of person with the capability of putting a sound bite in the right hands, I could actually help this thing go a little better for her -- but I lack power, and I probably always will.

I hold the position that such beliefs take the form of self-fulfilling prophecies. It only becomes true if people act as if it is, perhaps.

If the reality is as you think, the most you have done is tried and failed to help. Or maybe it could have changed but too many thought as you do/never heard what is going on and never acted. Or possibly your belief is mistaken and holding it causes you to act as another little cog in the social machine which sees a woman punished for being raped.

If the reality is as my paranoid mind thinks, and I take public efforts to point out absurdity (at best) or genuine corruption (at worst), then I've made my legal name part of the Enemies Of America.

Law enforcement illegally photographs protest groups. How am I to know that they don't also trawl congressional email looking for, well, people like me? People who Talk Back?

The victory of not speaking publicly, when it would do no good (which, in my world, it would not) is a hollow one compared to the victory of simply surviving another day.

Although I'm willing to concede (to you, ha!) that perhaps it might well do some good in certain circumstances.
