Righto, here are some things I have meant to mention over the past month or so but let slip away for various reasons. If you do not happen to enjoy reading my rambling self-indulgent thoughts on storyish things, now is your chance to escape.
longdull post of dooom )

And that I think is that.

Today, while on mid-class break (for some bizarre reason they do not expect us to focus more 100 minutes at a stretch) I was sitting with a group of other students from my class. At one point one of them addressed the group collectively as girls before adding hastily "and boy", at which point I rolled my eyes and people laughed.
"Well you don't want to be called a girl do you?" she said.
I was tempted to say something beginning with "Actually" but held my tongue.

Back in class the topic was applying for jobs and how to impress potential employers. One area is dress, which our teacher naturally began speaking of in terms of skirts and other traditionally female apparel until someone in the back asked what about guys. She explained that while she had seen some men wearing skirts and similar things it generally did not work for her, except as kilts.
Possibly no one found my remark "No skirts, then," quite as amusing as I did. Or perhaps they did in different ways. ::shrug::

It annoys me being back in the land of people making gender a topic of distinctive importance and people are seen through the lens of stereotype (Yes, yes I did do that because I am a guy and guys behave in X manner).

Since finishing part two of my Epic Fantasy (are you as sick of that title as I am?) I have not felt the energy to create or strong enough interest in any one story to focus on that in this break of unknown length before part three.
To keep my engine idling, so to speak, until I am inspired to chase down a particular tale again, I am trying to finish transcribing Krakkaire from my notebook. There were 8,745 words copied over and I added another 229 two days ago.
This is a story I originally wrote in my first year at university. Once it is all transcribed there will need to be a lot of reworking to make it presentable. Probably shortening too - I think it could stand to be cut in half. What I do like about it is that although the main character is active in pursuit in his goal, whether he succeeds or fails depends on factors outside his control.

Trying to establish a routine: recap, log and consider the previous day's progress, post on it, then write to daily quota. So far managing every other day. Must allow for editing and revision too.
