aesmael: (nervous)
Here we see the government in action. An Indian doctor working in Australia has a cousin who was involved in the recent failed bombing plot in the UK. He had, it seems, given his SIM card to said cousin and consequently was charged with providing support to a terrorist organisation.
He was released on bail only to have his visa revoked on grounds of character. The Justice who granted bail has pointed out that he, himself, would fail this test. Thus, although he has been released on bail it looks like he will be awaiting trial in detention.

Oh, but it turns out the SIM card in question was not found with the bomb as originally alleged. It is merely held by his cousin, who has apparently been charged with nothing more than not informing authorities of the plot.
Even so, he faces deportation if acquitted.

Information via John S. Wilkins|Evolving Thoughts here and here.
In less than an hour the Fresh Cat will reach her new patrol zone on the Hydran front; I look forward to seeing how she will perform against more worthy prey than we have faced so far. I remain less certain about Lt. Commander Ssleet, whose Bloodspiller has yet to see action. However, now that I have been promoted to Commander I shall do my best to fill my assigned role as her mentor.

Additional:
We have been forced to drop out of high warp still outside our patrol zone. Two Hydran vessels are registering on our scans, one Hunter class frigate, the HMS Vainglory and one Gendarme police cutter, the HMS Policy.
No response to the Cat's hail but we are at war. It is a mere formality before the hunt.
I make note that Lt. Rowrt is to be disciplined subsequent to this engagement for his failure to detect the enemy before we were forced out of warp.

Additional:
Technical victory. We crippled the Vainglory with such ease it seemed a perfect opportunity for a capture, until that barely weaned kitten Ssleet grew overenthusiastic, destroying the enemy with phaser fire and costing the lives of one of the Cat's boarding parties.
I offered her a second chance with the HMS Policy to prove she could follow orders; the Lt. Commander complied readily enough until the very moment when the Hydran vessel's resistance seemed finished and that *sound of enraged hissing* Kzin destroyed it too! At least she was thoroughly chastened once I was through with her so I will not be taking any action as yet. However, if this happens again the next time we have words will be in front of her bridge crew, right before she is demoted to deckhand.
Still, a victory for the Empire.
