Yup, they are from El Goonish Shive; I am using the avatars Dan Shive provides on the website for people to use (not that I think you are implying anything nefarious on my part - just extra information). The two characters are Justin and Tedd. If there were more Tedd ones available I would use those since Justin does not really like being a girl.
I suppose I could put all this in comments for my userpics but it is more fun to explain when people ask.
