I wish people would stop asking me what job I hope to get with my degree. I made the mistake of thinking university was not necessarily an apprenticeship or vocational training and chose to study something for the pure joy of learning, okay?

Oh! Another annoying thing is that grating question "so...what're you going to do with that degree? Teach?" *shudders*

Sometimes I think I might like to teach, until I remember the need to deal with kids and to go over the same material year after year.

Am glad you would do something for the pure joy of learning. It is far too rare these days, it seems. Although, of course, we do assume you would find joy too in the doing of such things professionally :)

Somehow we missed the last line, on "surprise me". I have oddly found just the opposite, although have only said it as "what would you recommend?" unless I had come to know the person and give them a sense of our oddities.

Possibly, too, it works better for things like an Italian Soda, where the price and basic concept is pre-set, and it is just a matter of choosing which flavors to add.
