Trying to work on my vocabulary by writing something each day using Word of the Day words. Today they are:
Ferdett!
I burst into the tower room and suddenly found myself confronted with an overabundance of choice. A congeries of paintings filled the room, walls and piles and floors, blocking the path to the opposite door. I forced myself to stop and think, breath slowing even as my panic rose. It would take hours for me to sort through them all; the path may be too faded to follow far by then. I may not even find it at all if this new obstacle managed to obfuscate my path too thoroughly.
I sat myself down upon a crate by the door to think, conscious of every second sliding by. It was hard thought, though, that saved the day this time. My eye was drawn to one in particular, a summer field of grass with a narrow dirt path winding to a distant copse. This agrestic scene so reminded me of my childhood I felt at once certain it must be the one. Without hesitation I stood, turned to face the wall on which it hung, hiked up my skirts and stepped through.
[Copse is a bonus word, recently of the day but shouldered off the list by Time on its insistent march]
congeries: a collection; an aggregation.
agrestic: pertaining to fields or the country.
obfuscate: to darken or obscure.
